| Zitat: | Born: 19. May 1925 Omaha, Nebraska
Death: 21. February 1965
Leader of civil rights campaign
After he moved to Detroit, Malcom X met Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Nation of Islam (NoI), who became a foster-father for him.
Malcom X showed great effort and thus became the spokesman of the NoI.
1958 he married Betty Jean Sanders, who worked as a nurse for the organisation.
As the national spokesman of the NoI, Malcolm X wouldn't get tired of pointing out the racism of the white society.
He called the whites “devils”, because they acted as such all the time. They lynched black people and preach them “nonviolence”. Also, the whites gave the blacks the worst jobs and stated that blacks arent capable to do anything else.
It was the begin of the civil rights campaign under Martin Luther King and Malcolm X was its most radical critc and spokesman at the same time.
Kings nonviolent strategy of integration was, especially among the rural blacks of the south states and within the small black middle class, very popular. To them, the north of the USA was still something like the “promised land”. They hoped that the whites would accept them. But Malcolm X knew the Slums of the big cities in the north and spoke for the black american slum citizens that gave up on the white liberals, because they experienced that, as far as the rights of the whites are concerned, there is no room for black progress.
The NoI - and above all Malcolm X as their flagship – was labeled as the enemy of the white nation, a “Hate-preacher”, a black monster.
After Malcolm X commented the murder of J. F. Kennedy with “a case of chickens coming home to roost“ he wasn't allowed to speak for 90 days in december 1963.
He was so impressed of the unity of all races during the Haddsch that he gave up on his racialist opinion.
As he orate in Harlem on the 21. February 1965, two auditors, seemed to be arguing and attracted attention of the audience. A smoke-bomb exploded and Malcolm X was killed by one shot of a shotgun and 16 bullets from 2 different weapons. |
