Diese Redewendung ist mir etwas fremd. Kann mir jemand helfen, bitte?

It had come in from the northeast, most likely a Lybian military base outside of Tripoli, and had to have flown nap-of-the earth to avoid detection.......
Die Bedeutung ist mir klar dieses "nap" jedoch nicht!

Als Frau ist dir sicher der "genoppte" Stoff oder der "Noppenstoff" ein Begriff.
Es handelt sich um kleine Verdickungen im Garn, welche, auf die Erdoberfläche übertragen, zu topographischen Unebenheiten werden. Im Englischen gibt es dazu die Bedeutung "die raue -- früher rauhe -- Oberfläche": "the nap of".
